Konecranes unveils the modular Generation D lift truck platform with global launch of new reach stackers
- Platform's remote update and upgrade capabilities support long-term customer investment planning
- Generation D is compliant with upcoming EU regulatory requirements
- The first Generation D products are diesel and electric reach stackers
Konecranes today introduced its new Generation D lift truck platform at the TOC Europe exhibition in Hamburg, Germany, marking a transition to a modular generation of equipment designed for maximum performance with minimum complexity. The first Generation D models are diesel and electric reach stackers, now available for ordering.
The global, modular Generation D platform enables Konecranes lift trucks to be easily configured for customers' different operational needs, while the common architecture simplifies fleet management and maintenance. The platform will meet all upcoming EU regulatory requirements, including those covering machinery safety and cybersecurity.
Generation D is built on open cyber-secure digital architecture that can integrate seamlessly with terminal operating systems and third-party applications. Over-the-air update capabilities help keep equipment software up to date, maintain optimal performance, and enable new features to be added over time. Remote monitoring and diagnostics capabilities support troubleshooting and maintenance activities, ultimately helping to reduce unexpected downtime.
"This is about maximum performance with minimum complexity. Generation D is designed to increase uptime by making fleet management and maintenance simpler. Drivers and mechanics benefit from working with a consistent platform, while fleet managers realize strong lifecycle value and low total cost of ownership," says Jeffrey Stokes, Director Product & Technology Management and Quality & Customer Satisfaction, Lift Trucks, Konecranes.
The new Konecranes diesel reach stackers introduced on the Generation D platform continue to deliver the proven performance that makes the model so popular with customers. The machines combine their familiar durability with simplified and highly predictable maintenance for even higher uptime in demanding container handling operations.
The new electric reach stackers on the Generation D platform produce zero tailpipe emissions during operation. Acceleration can be up to 25% faster than comparable diesel models, while a selection of market-leading high-energy-density battery packages and fast-charging combinations optimize the electric reach stacker for single shifts or 24/7 operations.
Both the diesel and electric versions retain the familiar ergonomics and superior visibility from earlier generations, complemented by a new Konecranes intuitive digital interface that provides a clear view of core operational data, making it easier for drivers to focus on their work.
"Generation D represents a major step forward in how we support our customers' long-term investment decisions. By introducing a common modular platform with a future-proof over-the-air enabled control system, we can deliver simplified fleet management across our portfolio. This lowers operational costs over the lifetime of the equipment and gives customers more flexibility in choosing the right technology for their current and future operations," says Andreas Falk, Senior Vice President, Lift Trucks, Konecranes.
Initially the Generation D reach stackers will be prioritized for the European and North American markets due to upcoming regulations. Konecranes is already working on expanding the Generation D lift truck platform to also include forklifts and empty and laden container handlers.
This launch is part of Ecolifting, Konecranes' comprehensive step-by-step roadmap to zero tailpipe emissions that supports the decarbonization of port operations. Our solutions range from renewable diesel-powered drives, to hybrid and fully-electrified fleets, and emerging options like hydrogen, all designed to meet the needs of each customer today and for the future.
A strong focus on customers and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that support the decarbonization of the economy and advance circularity and safety.
