Konecranes to supply 24 cranes for Hitachi Energy's transformer factory expansion in Ludvika, Sweden

Konecranes has won an order to supply 24 overhead cranes to Hitachi Energy for its expanded transformer manufacturing facility in Ludvika, Sweden. The new cranes will support the safe and efficient handling of transformer components and materials throughout the production process. The order was placed in September 2025, with delivery and installation scheduled in phases between March and September 2026.

The 24 cranes are comprised of 12 Konecranes S-series cranes and 12 Konecranes CXT overhead cranes and will be installed in Hitachi Energy's new 20,000 m² production building and test hall.

To enhance safety, control and productivity in transformer manufacturing, the cranes include variable-frequency drives for smooth acceleration and deceleration, precision load-positioning controls for accurate placement of components and advanced control systems tailored to the facility's operational requirements.

"Konecranes' expertise and innovative solutions make them an ideal partner for our Ludvika expansion. Their commitment to reliability and quality supports our focus on safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. We look forward to continued collaboration as we strengthen our production capabilities," says Fredrik Vestbro, Project Manager, Transformer expansion in Ludvika.

"The synthetic rope in the Konecranes S-series crane is particularly suitable for transformer manufacturing, as it eliminates metal particles from the hoisting rope, rope sheaves and drum, it also eliminates oil drips. All cranes are equipped with other solutions, such as debris fall protection. This is crucial for maintaining the required clean environment - while providing the precise control needed to handle sensitive components," says Joakim Dahlbacka, Sales Engineer, Industrial Equipment, Konecranes.

A strong focus on customers and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that support the decarbonization of the economy and advance circularity and safety.
